I Don't Do Santa

My mom told me right away that Santa was not real. I really never remember it bothering me but my step father wanted my younger brother to believe in Santa. So I decided to play along because we were 10 years apart. When he found out the truth it shook his foundations. He actually started questioning the existence of God. I saw how that and decided my mom did the right thing.
With my daughter I tell her Santa is a cartoon. I allow her to allow her imagination to flourish in play but to lie to her for years seems unnecessary to me. I loved my christmas times and wrote long list to my parents. I had such a gratefulness towards my mom even at a young age. I knew she bought the gifts because she loved me and that meant something.
She does not care either way when I tell her. I find it bothers other adults more. She does as I did and asks me for all her gifts. I love showing her love through giving and I want her to experience that joy. I am teaching her to give with love to others by starting with me.
